Now there are 12 that qualified (everyone from September, plus Gabbard and also Tom Steyer)

The democrats who can best beat Trump are Tulsi Gabbard and John Delaney.

And something funny , Delaney’s businesses he started were financed by Steyer

She’s one I actually have some respect for.

Neither of them are very inspiring. This election is all about mobilizing your base, I don’t see either really energizing the base right now. Especially Delaney.

I think many of the democratic nominees have a fair chance of beating Trump if he doesn’t become more popular. I doubt he’s going to have some sort of sudden rebound.

But in the end, unless voter turnout goes up, he might win again, even without the popular vote like last time .

They really should have put a cap on the number of participants. Since they aren’t doing that, I hope they split it based on polling and have a kids’ table debate like the GOP did in 2016, instead of doing a random draw.

Going back at least a quarter century (older poll numbers are harder to find) no one has captured the nomination when they’ve had fewer than 10% of the votes in national polls at this point , and only John Kerry has done it with less than 15% (and he did have 15% in some polls). These people with 3-4% polling figures have no chance at winning the nomination and they really shouldn’t be wasting people’s time with them.

Big news for Assad stans

Gabbard’s issues with Assad make her a non-starter for me. I’m all for improving the US’s rep abroad, and staying out of foreign countries where we don’t belong, but we shouldn’t even sit down at the table with some people.

Delaney has some good ideas, but is one of the least inspiring candidates in this race. Better him than some of the front-runners, but I can’t see voters turning out for a Delaney presidency.

Which do you like more, the gay-bashing or the support for terrible dictators?

Eesh... guess I need to do more digging. I respect her service, and the perspective that comes with it.

Delaney has some good ideas, but is one of the least inspiring candidates in this race.

I get this attitude, and understand it’s not necessarily yours, but My God people it’s a government administrator not a date they don’t need to be exciting!

This whole Ukraine bullshit (“but her emails!”) might have one upside- tanking Biden enough that he drops out. Tulsi getting in, though... might as well be Marianne Williamson. Or, on the side of sanity, Jay Inslee, may his campaign rest in peace. Another distraction that takes away from the work that needs to be done.

She has backed off the anti-gay stances in recent years, but she’s held them recently enough that I think it’s fair to question whether her change of heart is sincere or just something she recognized as politically necessary.

I’m not a huge fan of him, but if you are looking for a veteran, you might be better off supporting Buttigieg.

Gabbard’s Syria stunts are disqualifying.  Plus she has a weird background that the GOP would love to have in an opposing candidate.

Right? If exciting is what you’re looking for, you should probably stick with what we’ve got.

The thing is good idea should be e xciting. Granted bad ideas can be exciting too, but when the status quo is bad in so many places, I think you want someone who wants to do more than keep everything the same.

Trump has Republimmunity. Dems like to go after their own, see current gongshow of a primary. Then all Republicans have to do is come in for the kill.

He didn’t say “one of the least exciting,” he said “one of the least inspiring.” And as far as that goes, I have to agree that nothing John Delaney has ever said out loud is remotely inspiring.

But as to your point about excitement, even though I generally agree with you , it’s not unreasonable to prefer a candidate with a discernible pulse to whatever this is.
